The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Southeastern Kiowa County in southeastern Colorado...
* Until 1045 PM MDT.
* At 745 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain in Big Sandy and Buffalo Creek Drainages south of
Brandon and Sheridan Lake. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have
fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 3 inches in 1 hour.
Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in portions
of the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, highways,
rural roads, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Sheridan Lake, Brandon and Chivington.
This includes the following streams and drainages...
Big Sandy Creek and Rush Creek.
Recommended Action
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
